Removing stuck screws

Working on old motorcycles, you'll find a lot of screws have become stuck. Use this tip before stripping the screw head. ALSO, be sure to use the correct scewdriver. American screws are SAE and Japanese motorcycles use JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard). Not all Phillips screw heads are the same.
Idle Mixture screw discussion

When tuning your motorcycle, especially after modifying the air intake or exhaust system, you will need to adjust the idle mixture circuit. the common question is "Is it a fuel screw, or an air screw?" Here is how you know which it is.
Playing with wrench and fastener tolerances
Просмотров 1476 месяцев назад
Comparing the intended dimension of a wrench to the actual wrench and the fastener. What we find is that the 9/16 (.5625 inches) wrench isn't 9/16 (.5625) and neither is the fastener. BUT depending on what it is you are working on, the 14mm wrench may be a better fit on your "9/16" fastener. Reality on realities terms. This also occurs on other sizes of wrench where the metric and SAE are close...

that cringe when he heard "jon bon jovi" lmao
Waw hello from France mister ,nice project thanks you i like Big boss
All Norton commandos originally had capacitors on them because they were used as police bikes and if parked with lights on the battery would go flat. The brake isn’t the only issue , the r/h gears are also 1 up 3 down. I’m completely ambidextrous and I had BSA and AJS bikes from 14 years old. Had my commando 26 years and jumping off that onto my Thruxton or HD is never a problem. Theirs some good info on YT about Nortons,
I could not disagree more ! those filters on the petcock are not good filters they let particles through that are too big to begin with ! take them off and then you start having trouble with the petcock plugging up.... the tiny in line filter that you used as an example is not designed for high flow demands that is the problem here and yes it will restrict fuel flow ! so buy a better in line fuel filter ! those tiny inline fuel filters are used on lawn mowers not motorcycles ! I have a inline fuel filter on every motorcycle I own and have no problems with restricted fuel flow when the fuel tank gets low... they are bigger and can supply the amount of fuel needed .... and yes you need a better fuel filter than the stock fuel filter in the petcock or in the carburetor hose inlet ... if you have any questions as to if you have a fuel restriction situation going on simply pop off the fuel line from the carb and see if you have a good flow of fuel... if fuel barely trickles out then take off the gas cap if fuel flow increases you have a plugged cap vent..... the more filters, the better todays gasoline is very dirty.... and modern carbed bikes have extremely small pilot jet passageways...and they plug up very fast with no fuel filters in line. take it from someone who knows from experience.... you need more filters !
Anyone Notice how this old fart keeps deleting comments on how he is wrong! AND when he does comment he is a nasty boomer POS?
I don't run a filter at all on my CJ, the petcock has a sediment trap, the socks were removed and I extended the reserve pick up to create a secondary sediment trap in the tank (it has an inch or so long nipple welded to the tank that mounts the petcock, I lose about an ounce of fuel capacity). These bikes are known to have a high load lean condition that is exasperated by adding a fuel filter when a reproduction petcock is also installed (originals are hard to find). So yes, fuel filters are an additional flow restriction, you can test it yourself with a graduated cylinder and a timer. Basic jist is does your fuel system have enough fuel flow? No? Don't do it.
Excellent suggestion. That would be an interesting video to make. showing the flow rate of the same tank with 0, 1, and 2 filters in line. Last sunday, one of the bikes in our group ('72 CB500) lost the right two cyls. That was the side that two-owners ago had installed the inline filter in addition to the petcock screen. Left two cyls running fine, with just petcock screen, right had the petcock screen AND the inline filter and when his fuel level got down to 1/4 of a tank, it dropped three and four. I've seen this happen about once a year to one customer or another, and just figured I'd share the solution.
That little crummy plastic in-tank fuel filter sock (really more of a strainer) is always cracked after a shockingly short period of time and they're just generally junk filters. They fall apart in gas and then you have some of the strainer itself going into your carb. In-line filter is absolutely fine, that's why the carb has a bowl as a reservoir. Also that in-line filter is backwards, that might be why it was clogging!
I think the only additional restriction an inline filter would have is if the carb bowl can't keep up , but it's not pressure, it would be volume limiting then. Gravity fed carbs pull fuel up from the bowl. I dont trust those tube socks in the tank. They're press fit on the tube, could come off with sloshing. External filters forever!
I removed intank used inline for 35yrs. 👍
Sure it easier to replace filters that way. Just shut off the petcock, replace the filter, and turn fuel back on. No need to drain the tank and remove the petcock just to change the filter.
My Seca's vacuum petcock went bad and filled a cylinder. Luckily it was BDC so the exhaust valve opened when i cranked it. Replacement didnt have internal filters and wasn't vacuum, so I got the inline. I like seeing the filter so i can tell when its getting bad.
Old Jaguars are negative ground to ,never really understood that.
British. The Brits did everything positive ground. (I knew what you meant). It's not a big deal, if I can just remember as I do wiring. That and the right side shift, left side brake, make riding them a bit of a challenge. If it were an ONLY bike, no big deal, but switching between bikes makes that dicey.
❤ It's about learning and being willing to learn by teaching yourself. Mechanically minded problem solvers who are able to apply their skills universally are hard to find, but they're out there. I know a guy in this town in SD who fits the bill, though.
เดียวคว่ำ เลี้ยวแรงๆๆ😂😂
Never believe anything you find on the internet.
The differences are also between six point and twelve point wrenches plus sockets. And it seems oil drain plugs are the worst. And I do not call myself a mechanic. I just find the one that fits best. Screws would be a much longer video.
Excellent point. the 6 point to 12 point difference can be dramatic.
14mm wrench size??? In a metric country that's the wrench that allways will look like new ... There is no standard metric hex bolt/nuts of this size.
@@Guzzilunatic That's the issue with cars ... Everything is custom sized.
Just a wild suggestion but how about you use the spanner that fits? So, a 10mm spanner for a 10mm nut, and a 3/8 spanner for a 3/8 nut.
Maybe you should watch the video again, and actually listen to the numbers. The right wrench for the task is the one that fits best. Whether it is labeled as such, or nor. OR, do the conversions yourself. .03937 to convert from MM to inch, go for it.
Well I feel vindicated constantly switching between SAE and Metric now. Always irks me when a metric wrench doesn't fit a metric bolt or vice versa.
What! I hope nobody takes this guy seriously. I am really pissed about this. You only use the correct wrench for the fastener!
100%. this guy has NO real good serious content.
@@alspezial2747 THAT is what he said. the correct one is what ever fits better.
Okay, got it. Now do Whitworth
OOh, thats totall off the rails. Worse yet, there are some British motorcycles that were built with Whitworth, Metric AND SAE all on the same motorcycle. It's insanity.
What about BA (aka Thury) - the first metric thread ever developed… (everyone gets 0BA mixed up with 6mm metric)
Interesting! I have never had to deal with that. Whitworth, SAE and Metric is all I've needed. I've machined a lot of buttress and British Pipe, but am totally unfamiliar with BA.
@@Guzzilunatic BA was used a lot on instruments and clocks and watches particularly European ones). It is based on 90% steps between sizes with 0BA being the reference size with 16BA being the smallest in common use. Letter sizes go the other way, larger.
@@allangibson8494 You should do a little video and talk about that a bit. Spread the knowledge.
Nicely done! Since I was an auto mechanic during the transition years, I have Snap on wrenches in both SAE and Metric, shorts and longs shallow and deep wells. But for those who don't this is great info.
I run into this sort of thing every day, work is really cheap with the tools.
Good stuff. 👍🏻
freakin brilliant, its going right into the database and is there to stay for when the time is right and come to think of it, i have struggled with these types of springs oh probly 6 or 7 times with a set of channel locks or vice grips and alot of gorilla force
Fuck yes. Timmy giving respect to Maria Bamford.
Hi Lee I can't ride bikes but I can ride trikes would this be any good for me
Hi there Lee I absolutly love this & want to put somthing together to use with my clients with special needs. Only thing is I have a dicky knee due to a work injury 😁 Im looking at modifying your idea even further hopeing to use an electric trike bike with pedal assist but I have one big QUESTION do u know if I still need to add steel to straighten head stock if im using a 2 rear wheeled trike bike?? Sorry to bother you
Excellent question. I doubt you'll need to cut and de-rake the neck if you're starting out with a trike. Sorry I took so long to reply. I didn't get notified of a question being asked.

That timing on the taser bit was on point! Funny shit, Lee!
I was just today wondering what became of Lefty. Muskrat died. He looked like Gimli from Lord of the Rings.
Great bit of work! As well as obviously a great way of letting disabled friends come for a bike ride, its not a bad idea for a cheap-n-cheerful cargo trike design. The wheelchair is already designed to take a person's weight so strapping in a couple of Euro crates of shopping shouldn't tax it too much.
Why on earth didn’t you get on the bike and ride it
It was built for a person in a wheel chair. Them getting on the bike and riding it was not an option.
Timmy ❤️
I'd have to take it to a welder and everything

Hi. Thanks for this great idea and realization. I love it. I may not understand everything but wouldn't it be simpler to have a drop down connection between the fork and the chair (instead of a flat one) to keep the angle and avoid cutting/welding?

I still laugh at how dull that sawzall blade was. Got my moneys worth out of it. All two dollars.
How does it turn?
Function or judgment? Functionally, it turns by substituting the bicycles front wheel for a wheel chair, using the existing bicycle headstock. By de-raking the headstock it solves the trail issue created by switching from single track, to multi track. Judgmentally, it is not as light turning as one of the 5000 dollar systems, and you'll probably just want to use the lower 1 or 2 gears of the bike. It is a low cost option for someone who doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend on a factory built unit.
@@Guzzilunatic I’m going to give it a try thanks Tim
